Event Description:
This workshop will explain how to write the bylaws for your nonprofit organization that are required for the 501c3. Bylaws are the operating manual for your nonprofit that describe how your nonprofit will be structured. This legal document does not require precise wording but the IRS looks for specific language in deeming the activities of the organization as nonprofit. We will cover where to obtain this specific language as well as the nuances associated with the information included in the bylaws. Instructor: Melissa Metcalf Le Roy Melissa Metcalf Le Roy, a graduate of the Duke University teaches non-profit management classes throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia for Duke University. She is a past board member of the North Carolina Center for Non-Profits. For four years she contributed a regular “Non-Profit Leadership” column for the Tryon Daily Bulletin, and currently offers her services as a consultant through her own firm, OnFire Nonprofit Consulting. Melissa also recently completed her first TEDx talk, A Love Affair the Art of Not Asking. Melissa’s second passion is the environment and she has been awarded a Master Naturalist certification by Clemson University’s South Carolina Master Naturalist program, where she devotes long hours as a volunteer. Her passion for Nature and the Environment has also driven her to develop OnFire Naturals, an all-natural, organic, native medicinal skin care line for men and women. Before joining the non-profit sector, Melissa worked for over seven years with Lowe’s, Incorporated. A North Carolina native, she lives in Saluda, North Carolina with her husband Chris, a detective and polygraph examiner with the Hendersonville Police Department, and their two dogs Barry, Chandra & Cali.
