Event Description:
How do people recover and rebuild their lives in the aftermath of tragedy? That's a question Carolyn Lunsford Mears has explored since the 1999 shootings at Columbine High School in Colorado -- an event of which her son is a survivor. She'll speak on the topic of life-threatening events and the promotion of recovery on November 1, 2016, at 7:30 p.m., in Broyhill Chapel at Mars Hill University. Her talk is presented by the university's social work department. Mears is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and teaches at the University of Denver's Morgridge College of Education. She is internationally known for her work in support of communities, schools, and families devastated by traumatic events. Mears is the author of "Experiences of Columbine Parents: Finding a Way to Tomorrow;" "Reclaiming School in the Aftermath of Trauma;" and "Interviewing for Education and Social Science Research: The Gateway Approach."
